“Everyone has a fair turn to be as great as he pleases.” – Jeremy Collier
With great determination comes great success. Every person has the potential to succeed, achieve, and live a life of fulfillment. Having said that, it is up to the individual to strive for these ideals. Both hard work and a vision are needed to achieve greatness.

“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.” – Unknown
What does it mean to Climb The Mountain or reach your peak? How do you know when you’ve climbed high enough to reach the top?
You cannot climb if you don’t try. You can’t accomplish what you set out to do without any effort. Only you can set your own goals and the height of your own peak. You must set lofty goals and work hard to achieve them. Once you get to the top you may feel a sense of accomplishment, but don’t be satisfied. Keep going…

“There are no failures – just experiences and your reactions to them.” – Tom Krause
As humans, we face failure everyday. How you react to and manage failure, however, is what’s most important. A basketball player may go on the court thinking that he/she will play flawlessly throughout the game. However, this is usually not the case. How that player handles the mistakes that he/she makes turns him/her into a stronger student, athlete and well-rounded person.
As an athlete, one of the worst feelings is when you constantly make mistakes and everything seems to be going wrong. You keep fighting, but the harder you fight, the more problems arise and you get so deep in the hole that your head freezes and you start to shut down. You find it hard to catch your breath and you depend so strongly on your teammate to pick you up and carry you through the game. Only the strong can admit and overcome failure, and by doing this, they become stronger themselves. Don’t listen to the coaches or parents who tell you that you are not able to reach your peak or climb the mountain. It doesn’t matter what the non-believers think. Rather, it matters what you think of yourself and how hard you are willing to push yourself to reach your potential.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.” – Aristotle
You can immediately start creating a life full of excellence. While achieving excellence is a process that comes in due time, maintaining habits of great quality will lead to a life of fulfillment and success. Start today. Create your future.

I recently participated in the Branford Road Race, an annual race that takes place in my hometown, and wanted to share some of my thoughts regarding the event. As the race started I was very nervous and I knew that most of the town was watching us. Although I’m a multi-sport athlete, I don’t take part in road races very often. Nonetheless, I felt very comfortable running the first leg and was proud to be wearing Achieve Athletics gear. When the third mile came around I started to cramp up and fatigue, but knew I couldn’t stop. As I saw other runners stop to walk or take breaks on the side, I became even more convinced that I had come too far to let myself down and not finish the race on a strong note.
I was running alongside the same person for the last two miles and, to my surprise, every time we passed a crowd I would hear chants of, “go Matt!” or, “way to go Matt!” One runner even looked at me and said, “it looks like I’m running next to a crowd favorite.” That provided me with my final burst of energy and drove me to finish 173rd out of 2,000 runners in a time of 34 minutes and 41 seconds.
Despite the doubts that I sustained and the pain that I endured during the race, I was able to overcome these obstacles to achieve a personal goal.

“Commitment leads to action. Action brings your dream closer.” – Marcia Wieder
Without action there would be no results. The first step to achieving success is setting a goal for yourself. The second step is committing to that goal and taking the proper steps to reach your potential. Each positive step represents a movement closer to your dream. Take control of your destiny and commit yourself to greatness.
